AN ACT to clarify that first responders may not be denied the opportunity to vote due to appearing in the voting place in uniform.



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



SECTION 1.  G.S. 163‑166.3 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:



(a1)    Uniforms in the Voting Place. – No person seeking to vote may be refused entry into the voting place due to that person being a law enforcement officer, first responder, correctional officer, probation officer, or member of the Armed Forces of the United States and appearing in the uniform required by that person's employer. Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to allow denial of entry into the voting place due to attire when such denial is otherwise prohibited by law.



SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to elections on or after that date.
