AN ACT to clarify that certain dog training businesses are not classified as pet shops for purposes of licensing under the animal welfare act.



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



SECTION 1.  G.S. 19A‑23(12) reads as rewritten:



(12)    Pet shop means a person or establishment that acquires for the purposes of resale animals bred by others whether as owner, agent, or on consignment, and that sells, trades or offers to sell or trade such animals to the general public at retail or wholesale. A person or establishment that provides dog training and obedience services and that derives less than ten percent (10%) of its gross receipts from the sale of animals is not considered a pet shop for purposes of this Article.



SECTION 2.  This act applies only to Iredell County.



SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
