H383: Funds/Mattamuskeet Lodge. Latest Version

AN ACT to appropriate funds for the renovation of Mattamuskeet Lodge.
Whereas, the Lake Mattamuskeet Lodge Preservation Act, P.L. 109‑358, became law October 16, 2006, and provided for transfer to the State of North Carolina of a parcel of real property consisting of approximately 6.25 acres and containing Mattamuskeet Lodge and surrounding property, including the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge headquarters; and
Whereas, Section 2(b) of that act provides the transfer is conditional on the State of North Carolina agreeing to restore and maintain the lodge in accordance with Article 1 of Chapter 121 of the General Statutes, the North Carolina Archives and History Act; and
Whereas, in the 17 years since the Lodge was transferred to the State, and despite the pledges made by the State, only $6.6 million in additional funds have been made available for renovations of the Lodge; Now, therefore,
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. The sum of seventeen million dollars ($17,000,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2023‑2024 fiscal year is appropriated from the General Fund to the Wildlife Resources Commission to be used for the renovation and restoration for adaptive reuse of the Mattamuskeet Lodge.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2023.
