AN ACT creating a pilot program in THE department of labor to increase the number of elevator inspectors and appropriating funds for that purpose.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Labor, Special Fund 23800, the sum of two million dollars ($2,000,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2023‑2024 fiscal year and the sum of two million dollars ($2,000,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2024‑2025 fiscal year to fund a pilot program to increase the number of inspectors in the Elevator Bureau. These funds may be used to contract with up to 20 retired elevator inspectors for contracts of up to six months' duration.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2023.
