AN ACT to extend the term of the mayor for the town of siler city from two years to a four‑year term.



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



SECTION 1.  Section 4 of the Charter of the Town of Siler City, being Chapter 88 of the Private Laws of 1887, as amended by Section 1 of Chapter 860 of the 1963 Session Laws, reads as rewritten:



Sec. 4. The Mayor and Board of Commissioners of the Town of Siler City shall be elected on Tuesday after the first Monday in May in the odd‑numbered years in accordance with the following:



(a)        At the regular municipal election to be held in May, 1965, the two candidates for Commissioner receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to serve for a term of four (4) years and the other three candidates elected as Commissioner shall serve for a term of two (2) years. Thereafter, Commissioners shall be elected to serve for four‑year terms.



(b)        On Tuesday after the first Monday in May, 1965, and biennially thereafter, Beginning at the regular municipal election in 2023 and quadrennially thereafter, the Mayor shall be elected for a two‑year four‑year term.



SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to elections held on or after that date.
