HOUSE BILL 227



 



 



AN ACT to provide that regular municipal elections in the town of vanceboro shall be held in even‑numbered years.



 



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



 



SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law, regular municipal elections for the election of officers in the Town of Vanceboro shall be held in even‑numbered years at the time of the general election and otherwise in accordance with the uniform municipal election laws in North Carolina. The election shall be decided by the nonpartisan plurality method in accordance with G.S. 163‑292.



SECTION 2.  No municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town of Vanceboro in 2023. The terms of office for the Mayor and all Aldermen serving on the effective date of this act whose terms are set to expire in 2023 shall be extended by one year, and regular municipal elections shall be conducted in 2024 and every four years thereafter.



SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to elections held on or after that date.
