AN ACT to grant a continuing professional license to teachers licensed in other states with substantially similar requirements.



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



SECTION 1.  G.S. 115C‑270.20(a)(4a)b. is repealed.



SECTION 2.  G.S. 115C‑270.20 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:



(e)      Out‑of‑State Licensee. – The State Board of Education shall grant a CPL to a teacher licensed in another state with substantially similar licensure requirements who has at least three years of teaching experience and is in good standing with the licensing authority of the other state. Teachers who receive CPLs pursuant to this subsection are subject to all of the same licensure requirements as teachers granted CPLs pursuant to subdivision (1) of subsection (a) of this section.



SECTION 3.  G.S. 115C‑270.25 is repealed.



SECTION 4.  This act is effective when it becomes law and applies to out‑of‑state applicants for licenses submitted on or after that date.
