AN ACT TO ALLOW SECURITY GUARDS TO CARRY FIREARMS ON NONPUBLIC EDUCATIONAL PROPERTY.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 74C‑3(a)(6) reads as rewritten:
(6) Security guard and patrol profession. – Any person, firm, association, or corporation that provides a security guard on a contractual basis for another person, firm, association, or corporation to another for a fee or other valuable consideration and performs one or more of the following functions:

f. Prevention, observation, or detection of intrusion, entry, larceny, abuse, fire, trespass, or physical threat on educational property that is owned, used, or operated by a school that operates under Part I or II of Article 39 of Chapter 115C of the General Statutes.
SECTION 2. G.S. 14‑269.2(g) is amended by adding a new subdivision to read:
(8) A person registered under Chapter 74C of the General Statutes as an armed security guard for a nonpublic school that operates under Part I or II of Article 39 of Chapter 115C of the General Statutes, when acting in the discharge of the guard's official duties on the premises of that school.
SECTION 3. This act becomes effective December 1, 2023. Section 1 of this act applies to licenses granted or renewed on or after that date. Section 2 of this act applies to offenses committed on or after that date.
