AN ACT to clarify the conditions of discharge from the armed forces of the united states of america that may be used by a sheriff to deny an application for a concealed handgun permit.



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



SECTION 1.  G.S. 14‑415.12(b)(7) reads as rewritten:



(7)      Is or has been discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States under conditions other than honorable.honorable with a discharge classified as a bad conduct discharge, a dishonorable discharge, a dismissal, or a discharge under other than honorable conditions. An application shall not be denied for an entry‑level separation or a discharge characterized as an honorable or general discharge.



SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective December 1, 2023, and applies to permit applications submitted on or after that date.
