AN ACT to increase funding for the NC Biotechnology Center.

Whereas, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center is a key asset and hugely important partner in the State's life sciences recruitment efforts, which in 2021 yielded 19 major projects in the sector representing some $4 billion in investments and more than 4,800 jobs, including top investors such as FUJIFILM Diosynth Technologies ($2 billion), Amgen ($550 million), Thermo‑Fisher Scientific ($350 million), and Abzena ($213 million); Now, therefore,

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Commerce the recurring sum of six million four hundred thousand dollars ($6,400,000) for the North Carolina Biotechnology Center for the 2022‑2023 fiscal year to support existing, and expansion of, operations by the Center.

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
