AN ACT to fund the new light intergenerational outreach school suspension program in guilford county.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction for the 2022‑2023 fiscal year the sum of five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) in nonrecurring funds to be allocated as a directed grant to the New Light Intergenerational Outreach Resource & Enrichment Center, a nonprofit corporation, to expand access to its school suspension program that provides supervision of students that have been suspended from public school units located in Guilford County. The program (i) provides facilities and staff to supervise students that have been suspended from school, (ii) conducts training in conflict resolution and life skills, and (iii) assists students in completing assignments while on suspension.
SECTION 2. No later than April 15, 2023, New Light Intergenerational Outreach, in consultation with the Department of Public Instruction, shall report to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee on the school suspension program funded by this act, including staffing and facility expenses, the number of students participating in the program, the public school unit in which those students are enrolled, and the impacts of the program on student performance.
SECTION 3. This act becomes effective July 1, 2022.
