A JOINT RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Dana Byron Bumgardner, former member of the general assembly.

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner was born on May 16, 1954, in Mooresville, North Carolina, to the late David Calvin Bumgardner and Betty Quinn Bumgardner; and

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner taught himself about business and later served as President and CEO of LPM, Inc.; and

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner was an outstanding citizen and leader in the affairs of his community and rendered distinguished and unselfish service as a member of several organizations. He was also a member of First Baptist Church; and

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner represented the citizens of Gaston County as a member of the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2021; and

Whereas, during his tenure in the General Assembly, Dana Byron Bumgardner served as chair of the Committees on Appropriations, Insurance, and Health Reform and was a member of several other committees, including Banking; Commerce and Job Development; Education; Finance; Health and Human Services; Judiciary II; Public Utilities; Regulatory Reform; Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House; and Transportation; and

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner earned the respect and affection of his legislative colleagues for his quick wit, integrity, and courage to speak up for his principles; and

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner died on October 2, 2021, at the age of 67; and

Whereas, in addition to his parents, Dana Byron Bumgardner was preceded in death by his brothers, David Quinn and Jeffrey George Bumgardner; and

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 34 years, Cindy Townsend Bumgardner; daughter and son‑in‑law, Lauren Bumgardner Current and A.J. Current; son, Austin Charles Bumgardner; grandchildren, Payton Elizabeth, Marjorie Quinn, and Kathleen Elaine Current; and brother, Benjamin Calvin Bumgardner; and

Whereas, Dana Byron Bumgardner will be remembered by all who knew him as one who was devoted to his family and his community; Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

SECTION 1.  The General Assembly honors the memory of Dana Byron Bumgardner, former member of the General Assembly, and expresses its appreciation for the service he rendered Gaston County and the State of North Carolina.

SECTION 2.  The General Assembly extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Dana Byron Bumgardner for the loss of their beloved family member.

SECTION 3.  The Secretary of State shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the family of Dana Byron Bumgardner.

SECTION 4.  This resolution is effective upon ratification.
