S798: Fire Administration Degree and Funds/WSSU. Latest Version

AN ACT to appropriate funds to establish a fire service administration degree program at winston‑salem state university.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. Beginning in the 2023‑2024 academic year, the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina shall establish a new, four‑year bachelor of science academic program in fire service administration at Winston‑Salem State University. The program shall address the business and technical components of fire service protection as an administrator. The program shall include an in‑service internship requirement and provide all necessary educational components for both of the following:
(1) Certification as a firefighter.
(2) Credentialing as an emergency medical technician in accordance with Article 7 of Chapter 131E of the General Statutes.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina the sum of one million dollars ($1,000,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2022‑2023 fiscal year to establish an academic degree program in fire service administration at Winston‑Salem State University in accordance with Section 1 of this act.
SECTION 3. This act becomes effective July 1, 2022.
