H1036: Compass Youth Robotics Funding. Latest Version

AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR THE COMPASS YOUTH CENTER ROBOTICS PROGRAM.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction for the 2022‑2023 fiscal year the sum of one hundred two thousand five hundred seventy dollars ($102,570) in nonrecurring funds to be allocated as a directed grant to Compass Youth Center, a nonprofit corporation, to expand access to and participation in its robotics program to students of public school units. The robotics program is a project‑based program that shall educate students in grades six through 12 on the fundamentals of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), business, and financial literacy.
SECTION 2. No later than April 15, 2023, the Department of Public Instruction shall report to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee on all expenditures of grant funds, including equipment purchases and facility rentals, the total number of students participating in the program, the total number of public school unit students participating in the program and the public school units in which those students are enrolled, and the impacts of the program on student performance, including in STEM areas.
SECTION 3. This act becomes effective July 1, 2022.
