AN ACT to appropriate funds for the rehabilitation of the mary potter school shop building for use as a community center in granville county.

Whereas, the mission of National Mary Potter Club, Inc., (NMPC) is to preserve the history and legacy of the Mary Potter School, founded in 1889, and to continue the ideals and standards of excellence set forth by the school's founder, Dr. George Clayton Shaw; and

Whereas, in an effort to continue its mission, NMPC plans to rehabilitate the shop building for use as a multipurpose community center for the citizens of Granville County; and

Whereas, NMPC has successfully maintained the Mary E. Shaw Gymnasium and the George C. Shaw Museum on the campus; and

Whereas, additional funding is needed for architectural and engineering services, demolition of old pipes and concrete, and interior upgrades, including stabilization of existing structural systems, plumbing, and electrical systems; Now, therefore,

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Office of State Budget and Management the sum of three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2022‑2023 fiscal year to provide a directed grant to National Mary Potter Club, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, to be used to rehabilitate the 1927 shop building for a multipurpose community center for the citizens of Granville County and preserve the legacy of the structure.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2022.
