AN ACT to appropriate funds to provide the commission of indian affairs with staffing support for the state recognition process.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Administration, North Carolina State Commission of Indian Affairs, the sum of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) in each year of the 2021‑2023 fiscal biennium in recurring funds to support a director and part‑time paralegal to conduct historic research, review petitions of presently unrecognized Indian tribes, and perform other duties associated with the management of the State recognition process. Funds not used for these positions shall be used for staff support items, including computers, supplies, and IT support.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2021.
