AN ACT to appropriate funds for the united States army airborne and special operations museum.

Whereas, the United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum is located in Fayetteville, North Carolina; and

Whereas, the United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum is the only museum in the nation dedicated to telling the heroic stories of the elite Army Airborne and Special Operations Forces soldiers, both of past and present; and

Whereas, the mission of the United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum is to inspire people of all ages to learn from these stories of heroism, perseverance, and the responsibility of victory throughout the world; and

Whereas, the United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum is currently using over twenty year old antiquated and unreliable technology, thereby rendering them unable to tell the story of our soldiers who have not only dedicated their lives to the security of our nation, but in some instances have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms; and

Whereas, through funding from the State of North Carolina, the United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum will be able to improve and update exhibits devoted to the events from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War, as well as create an exhibit to tell the story of the Global War on Terrorism; and

Whereas, updating these exhibits will breathe new life into our nation's history and inspire young visitors while also honoring the service of those who put their lives on the line for our freedoms each and every day; Now, therefore,

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum Foundation, a nonprofit organization, the sum of two million five hundred thousand dollars ($2,500,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2021‑2022 fiscal year to make necessary updates and additions to the United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum in order to honor the legacy of our Airborne and Special Forces troops.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2021.
