S70: Funds/Carolina Museum of The Marine. Latest Version
2021-2022
AN ACT to appropriate funds for the carolina museum of the marine and civic institute in onslow county.
Whereas, efforts are underway to complete Phase II of the Carolina Museum of the Marine and Civic Institute, which will be a world‑class, high‑tech, and high‑touch museum that honors the legacy of Carolina Marines and Sailors; and
Whereas, the Museum will be a 40,000 square foot facility in Onslow County and will consist of various exhibits highlighting such subjects as expeditionary warfare and amphibious operations, Carolina Marine Air-Ground Task Force's development of maneuver warfare philosophy, women Marines, Montford Point Marines, War Dogs, and Wounded Warrior Barracks; and
Whereas, the Museum will also include a Civic Institute which will offer conferences, lectures, courses, and symposia to provide attendees with opportunities to learn and practice the enduring core values of American citizenship and the civic virtue that is emblematic of legends of the Marine Corps; and
Whereas, the Museum will also serve as a multipurpose venue for public and private events, including military balls, promotions and retirement ceremonies, and civic activities; Now, therefore,
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Museum of The Marine, a nonprofit organization, the sum of twenty‑six million dollars ($26,000,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2021‑2022 fiscal year to be used for building the Carolina Museum of the Marine and Civic Institute and designing and installing exhibits, classrooms and theaters, and immersive technology.
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2021.
