1 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
2 AN ACT ABOLISHING THE OFFICE OF CORONER IN AVERY, BLADEN, HOKE,
3 MONTGOMERY, AND YADKIN COUNTIES.
4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
5 SECTION 1.(a) The office of coroner in Montgomery County is abolished.

6 SECTION 1.(b) Chapter 152 of the General Statutes is not applicable to
7 Montgomery County.
8 SECTION 2.(a) The office of coroner is abolished.
9 SECTION 2.(b) Chapter 152 of the General Statutes is not applicable.
10 SECTION 2.(c) This section applies only in the following counties: Avery, Bladen,
11 Hoke, and Yadkin Counties.
12 SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 2 of this act, any coroner elected in the 2018

13 or 2020 general election shall serve the remainder of their term. If a vacancy occurs in the office
14 of coroner, a person may be appointed to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
15 SECTION 4. This act is effective when it becomes law.
