AN ACT to revise the method of electing members of the macon county board of commissioners to provide for the election of two at‑large members.



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



SECTION 1.  Section 1 of Chapter 209 of the Session Laws of 1943, as amended by referendum in 1978 authorized by G.S. 153A‑58 to increase the size of the Board of County Commissioners in Macon County from three to five, reads as rewritten:



Section 1. That at the general election for county officers to be held in Macon Couty in the year one thousand nine hundred and forty-six and quadrennially thereafter, there shall be elected by the qualified voters of said county a chairman and two members of the board of county commissioners. That the chairman and the members of the board of county commissioners elected in the year one thousand nine hundred and forty-two shall hold office for a term of four years from the first Monday in December, one thousand nine hundred and forty-two or until their successors are elected and duly qualified.The Board of County Commissioners of Macon County shall consist of five members who shall serve for staggered terms of four years. One member shall be elected from each of the three Districts and two members shall be elected from the county at large. In 2026, and quadrennially thereafter, one member shall be elected from District 1, one member shall be elected from District 2, and one member shall be elected from the county at large. In 2028, and quadrennially thereafter, one member shall be elected from District 3 and one member shall be elected from the county at large.



SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
