S884: Funds/Water Filtration Grants. Latest Version

AN ACT to provide funds to provide safe drinking water to low income households in the Neuse and cape fear river basins.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1.(a) Appropriation. – The sum of two million five hundred thousand dollars ($2,500,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2024‑2025 fiscal year is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Environmental Quality for the Bernard Allen Memorial Emergency Drinking Water Fund established by G.S. 87‑98.
SECTION 1.(b) Limitations and Eligibility. – Notwithstanding provisions of G.S. 87‑98 to the contrary, these funds shall be used for the provision of water filtration systems to households with incomes at one hundred fifty percent (150%) or less of the current federal poverty level and that are located in the Neuse or Cape Fear river basins. For purposes of this section, a water filtration means a point‑of‑use or point‑of‑entry drinking water filtration system capable of removing per‑fluoroalkyl or poly‑fluoroalkyl substances.
SECTION 2. Effective Date. – This act becomes effective July 1, 2024.
