S791: Study & Abate Ocular Melanoma/Funds. Latest Version

AN act appropriating funds to study and abate ocular melanoma in northern mecklenburg county.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina the sum of two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) in nonrecurring funds for the 2024‑2025 fiscal year to be allocated to East Carolina University to fund a study by the East Carolina University Department of Public Health on the potential causes of and solutions for abating ocular melanoma in the Towns of Huntersville and Cornelius and the surrounding area. In conducting this study, the East Carolina University Department of Public Health shall coordinate with the North Carolina Collaboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (the Collaboratory) and employ the strategies recommended by the Collaboratory in its April 2020 report to the General Assembly under S.L. 2019‑145.
SECTION 2. The East Carolina University Department of Public Health, in cooperation with the Collaboratory, shall submit a report on the results of the study authorized by Section 1 of this act, including any proposed legislation, to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee and the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services on or before December 1, 2025.
SECTION 3. This act becomes effective July 1, 2024.
