AN ACT TO appropriate funds to the cabarrus county sheriff's office to pilot the use of contract transportation services for transportation relating to involuntary commitments.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Safety the sum of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) in nonrecurring funds in the 2023‑2024 fiscal year and one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) in nonrecurring funds in the 2024‑2025 fiscal year to be allocated as grants to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office to be used to pilot the use of contract transportation services related to involuntary commitment transportation required under Chapter 122C of the General Statutes.

SECTION 2.  The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office shall only contract for transportation services utilizing the funds appropriated in Section 1 of this act in instances determined to be safe for the utilization of contracted transportation services.

SECTION 3.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2023.
