AN ACT to prohibit the building code council from requiring the installation of automatic residential fire sprinkler systems in residential dwellings covered by the north carolina building code.



The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:



SECTION 1.  G.S. 143‑138 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:



(b23)  Prohibit Requirement for Automatic Residential Fire Sprinkler System Installation. – The Code shall not include provisions requiring automatic residential fire sprinkler systems in residential dwellings covered by the Code. Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to prevent the installation of automatic residential sprinkler systems in residential dwellings covered under the Code.



SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
